Danskin Done - A fun, stress-free time

It didn't rain. I didn't forget anything - no equipment or wardrobe malfunctions... It was all good. At the end of the day I had fun. The site was set up differently this year and I liked it. FIRM RACING did an AWESOME job of organizing/executing the race.

No PR... I did not make my goal of finishing in the 1hour 30+ minute range, but it just wasn't my day I guess. 1:44 was my final time. Here's the synopsis --My swim felt long (and it was). My transitions were sluggish (room for improvement). The bike felt good. I wasn't as strong on the hills as I had hoped, but I powered on the downhills and finished in 45 min. My run felt hard and slow. My legs never lost that sluggish/post-ride feeling and it was hard to get into a groove. I felt good when I finished so I know I held back.

Next year Sister #3 will be back. We have decided that 2008 will be a year of PRs. To make that even more of a possibility we have decided to buy new bikes with our tax returns. Of course the best way to improve my times / health / fitness will be to lose 30+ lbs. Time to make that a priority in my life once again.

RACES UPCOMING: BreakAway 5K, 5/18 at 8:00 a.m. on vacation OldOrchardBeach ME, IronGirl10K, 9/3 and Tufts 10K 10/9....

Cold or no Cold

I got sick this weekend, but thankfully a little rest, zicam and tylenol cold and flu got me through. I am feeling much more myself today.

I worked out 2x this week - not as planned, but it was the best I could do given the circumstances. I may get a swim in at the Y today - or a run - or nothing.... It's all OK. Nothing I do now will make my race this Sunday any more productive than it will be. One thing I have learned over the years is that race day is just a day. It could be a good one - it could be a disasterous one. I prepared this year and trained fairly hard so I am expecting a good result. BUT I can't control the weather (and it's supposed to rain) or the other conditions (high humidity, colder than usual lake water). I'm going to enjoy it though, no matter what.....

I was looking at other Tri's this summer, but all that I'll be around for have ocean swims and I don't have a wet suit. The ocean temp is somewhere around 65 degrees and I just don't think I could stand it for a half mile swim.... and then bike and run.... Next season a wet suit may just have to be in the cards. Suggestions are welcome - sleeves, no sleeves, short, long ---- which are easiest to get off and on???? Frankly they just don't look comfortable - especially on someone 40lbs overweight..... Perhaps I'll get inspired to lose some of that 40lbs... It couldn't hurt.

In the meantime, I think I'll sign up for some 5ks and 10ks and concentrate on improving my shorter distance runs. My fastest time this year has been 10:56 mile. Last year it was 11:34 so I am faster - but I know I can do better. My fastest ARMY PT test was 17:46 for 2 miles. Of course that was long ago - but it just could be a great challenge...... A sub nine mile? (yikes!)

What do I have to eat about?

Well here I am again. One week before Danskin and while I weigh less than last year - it's not much. HMMPH! I have no one to blame but my self. I've neglected WW - although I haven't quit - and I've been eating WEIRD - not in my character stuff (like a box of crackers I don't even like!!) I recommit and recommit and recommit. What else can I do? I hear this voice telling me that if I do the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome then I am CRAZY. I must be that.

On the exercise front, I am 10x better prepared than last year. I've been exercising on a regular basis and TRAINING for this tri. We ran through the course Saturday morning and I did the bike in 47 minutes (over 15 mph pace), ran in 32:04 and swam for 15 min... (we have no sense when it comes to how far a half mile looks in the lake). What this could translate into is a PR come Sunday... We'll see... I felt GOOD!

After this Tri is done I plan to get back to the DIET front and concentrate more on the run and weights. I have a 10K scheduled in October, not to mention vacation . I am SICK of being FAT. I wish I looked as good as I feel after finishing a good hard workout!

Getting Close to Danskin

Yesterday I biked 25 miles in 1:38 and ran 2 in 23:40 (the run included 2 stops to yell at some not so nice dogs - SCAREY). I loaded wood with my siblings and that concluded a day of training. My weight has leveled off at 191.2 hmph! I have 3 short weeks to plant myself firmly in the 180s. It has been SO hard to stay focused on the diet front.

DH is on vacation and so are the kids. Structure has all but gone out the window. This week I am RUNNING as much as possible. I am going to incorporate a few SLimFa$t days and hope that I can lose what I may have gained at my in-laws last week.

My goal for Danskin is that I be in the 180s making it my lightest TRI AND that I beat last year's time which was pretty pathetic! BOTH DOABLE!
