Cold or no Cold

I got sick this weekend, but thankfully a little rest, zicam and tylenol cold and flu got me through. I am feeling much more myself today.

I worked out 2x this week - not as planned, but it was the best I could do given the circumstances. I may get a swim in at the Y today - or a run - or nothing.... It's all OK. Nothing I do now will make my race this Sunday any more productive than it will be. One thing I have learned over the years is that race day is just a day. It could be a good one - it could be a disasterous one. I prepared this year and trained fairly hard so I am expecting a good result. BUT I can't control the weather (and it's supposed to rain) or the other conditions (high humidity, colder than usual lake water). I'm going to enjoy it though, no matter what.....

I was looking at other Tri's this summer, but all that I'll be around for have ocean swims and I don't have a wet suit. The ocean temp is somewhere around 65 degrees and I just don't think I could stand it for a half mile swim.... and then bike and run.... Next season a wet suit may just have to be in the cards. Suggestions are welcome - sleeves, no sleeves, short, long ---- which are easiest to get off and on???? Frankly they just don't look comfortable - especially on someone 40lbs overweight..... Perhaps I'll get inspired to lose some of that 40lbs... It couldn't hurt.

In the meantime, I think I'll sign up for some 5ks and 10ks and concentrate on improving my shorter distance runs. My fastest time this year has been 10:56 mile. Last year it was 11:34 so I am faster - but I know I can do better. My fastest ARMY PT test was 17:46 for 2 miles. Of course that was long ago - but it just could be a great challenge...... A sub nine mile? (yikes!)
