My mother never attempted to de-escalate, she always fed right into it, and ramped it up, and it always bothered me how (a) that started my sister's day off so very badly each day, and, now that I'm older, I see (b) how she never taught my sister how to cope with her morning self. This means learning how herself, of course. I do NOT envy your position, but I do see that this is something she needs from you, something to learn how to manage. You sound like you're doing great!
