A Book Club

Out of my comfort zone, and willing to give it a try, I went to a book club. I read the book or so I thought... American Heiress ... I didn't have the authors name, but the title came right up when I searched the catalog, a bestselling author, published in 2013. Great! And it was simple, predictable, with poorly developed characters...I thought, "this is not really my idea of a book club book, who are these people?!"...  I went to Good Reads to see what other readers thought of the book, and up popped American Heiress, published 2011, reviewed by the NYT...  a Book Club book... Damn! This must be the book. I had no time to read it, but surprisingly both were set in the early 1900s with a similar theme - rich US heiresses heading to England to marry nobility. Rich girl with money - Titled man with a vast estate and staff that had rendered them poor... At least I would have something to discuss....

Um, it not the right book... The American Heiress was Patty Hearst...I was not even close...

The group was nice. I'll go next month. It was good to get out and talk about things unrelated to children or work... The next book is Reckless, by William Boyd.

Oh, no! That's crazy, sorry that happened. Glad you liked the group though! I've been looking for a book club - maybe. I don't really read that fast. How did you find this one?

Group was an interesting mix - a single friend from HS and 4 strangers... Not sure, but it could be a "meet up" group. Next time will be at a home vs. restaurant. There are 60+ members and they typically get >10... It's close to the house, once a month and I need to get out and do stuff for me...
