The Good Thing About a Cold... and other things like a husband rant...

There isn't much good about a cold, except a low appetite so I stayed on plan yesterday without *many* issues... I admit to eating 2 pieces of chocolate - a J Roget and a Lindt truffle - gifts from my cleaners -  delicious and DONE... and within my calories for the day (although sugar is not on my plan).

I decided to diminish my pre-holiday stress by leaving work early yesterday and grocery shopping before the rush... The stores were nuts so I'm glad I did. When I arrived home with all the food, the DH was busy cleaning up from making pickled eggs (something his family has at Christmas that only he eats... why 2 dozen???). Excellent! Stinky! Next on his agenda was THE GYM and a holiday happy hour with friends from an old job... All would be fine - he could help me by picking up the kids from school and taking the little one to her piano lesson, while I prepped the make- ahead stuffed shells/meatballs for Christmas eve and got the teen to work. It was a fair plan until...

I thought he'd left for the gym and found him in the family room with his bike apart on the stand - his new chain guard arrived and he wanted to put it on quick... and it wasn't going according to plan... there was swearing... I picked up the kids... the little one walked to piano... I finished cooking and took the teen to work...

DH went to the gym, showered and went to his happy hour.

I am a little exacerbated by the husband if you can't tell... This morning on my way to work (yes, Christmas eve eve) he wanted to know my Christmas list again and I *patiently* repeated the very specific list I gave him last week because:

  • A.) He will spend too much on something I don't want and then be mad if I return it; or
  • B.) He will buy something too small  because he doesn't want to hurt my feelings by getting me the size I need (which is big), or
  • C.) He will buy something like a jazzed up bike computer that I won't ever learn how to use; and find completely unnecessary; and he will take it... Think Homer Simpson buying Marge the latest and greatest bowling ball...
Of course since he'll be shopping he won't be around to get the kids at noon from half day school which means that I'll have to do it and try to find a way to get the teen's new phone to the Verizon store to switch her service over before Christmas... ugh.

My final words when I walked out the door were "Before you go PLEASE clean the cat boxes and feed the animals... love you!"

His were ... "I thought the kids did that."

MEH...

Holy crap! Two DOZEN pickled eggs when only he eats them?! This is laugh-in-his-face funny (so long as it didn't completely deplete you of eggs?!). Wow. It sounds like you are doing a lot of breathing it out. :) Good luck and merry Christmas!

Pickled eggs? That sounds nasty, lol. Hope you made it through the holiday OK!
